During World War 2, millions of buildings were destroyed. In Germany alone, there 5 billion square yards of ruble. People either died from buildings collapsing or from going without shelter and living in ruins. Millions of civilians went homeless. In Berlin, Germany's capitol, was largely destroyed by air raids and the battle for Berlin, which ended the war. About 30 square miles of Berlin's buildings, some being very important and old, were destroyed
